Coronavirus has more surprises to show us, the pandemic it causes has spread all over the world, and unveiled with time, new effects on different organs of the body, the latest of these is causing strokes in young patients even those with mild cases.

Strokes are clots of blood that clog large vessels in the brain, resulting in poor blood flow to the brain and cause death of cells and parts of the brain may not function properly and may cause major brain complications, leading to paralysis and even death.

The chief executive officer of Synchron and neurointerventionist at Mount Sinai Hospital in New York City Professor Thomas Oxley told CNN: “Our report shows a seven-fold increase in incidence of sudden stroke in young patients during the past two weeks. Most of these patients have no past medical history and were at home with either mild symptoms (or in two cases, no symptoms) of Covid”, he added: ““The virus seems to be causing increased clotting in the large arteries, leading to severe stroke”.

Oxley, indicated the case of 5 patients under 50 years, admitted to the hospital suffering from stroke, and tested positive for COVID-19, more evidence has shown that Covid-19 infection can cause unusual blood clots, and stroke would be an expected consequence of that.

In normal circumstances, Oxley noted that as an average 2 patients in this age group are admitted to the hospital after suffering a stroke.

He advised people to seek medical help within 6 hours if they suffered from "FAST", where F is for “face drooping” if one side of the face droop or feels numb, Ask the person affected to smile, and if the person's smile is uneven or lopsided, A is for “arm weakness”, if one arm weak or feels numb, ask the person to raise both arms and if one arm drift downward, S is for speech if the speech is slurred, or if the person is unable to speak or hard to understand, Ask the person to repeat a simple sentence and T stands for time to call the emergency hotline in your area, if the person shows any of these symptoms, even if the symptoms go away, call the ambulance and get him to the hospital immediately.
